Demolition of a building set to become a waterfront restaurant partly owned by former NBA superstar Michael Jordan is expected to begin within a month now that the permit to knock down the current building has been approved by Jupiter.
Jordan is one of 13 owners in a 325-seat restaurant on the Loxahatchee River expected to open by the end of 2017.
The other dozen investors include former New York Giants running back Tucker Frederickson. Jordan has a home in the Bear’s Club, a private community in off Donald Ross Road in Jupiter.
1000 North is the planned name for the restaurant.
The 18,000-square-foot restaurant, off U.S. 1 just north of Burt Reynolds Park, will have about 75 outdoor seats — including an outside bar — and overlook the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse. A public dock and boat slips are planned.
Offices are planned on the second floor of the new structure.

The new restaurant would be required to close at midnight. Food and alcohol sales would end at 11 p.m. Outdoor live music after 10 p.m. would require a special-event permit from the town.
Plans include a connection with Riverwalk, the town’s 2.4-mile pedestrian/bicycle waterfront lane from Ocean Way to the Jupiter Inlet that goes through Harbourside Place and along the Intracoastal Waterway and Jupiter Inlet.
Michael Jordan’s Restaurant, a multi-level spot in Chicago, was once one of the more popular spots in Chicago, operating from 1993 to 1999. Jordan never had ownership stakes in that restaurant, though he helped with decor and menu.
The town council in 2013 unanimously approved the project on the site of the former Charlie’s Crab and later the Brix Italian Fishery restaurant. The site of the building, formerly Charlie’s Crab restaurant and later Brix Italian Fishery in Jupiter, will be demolished and replaced with thr new restaurant.
Currently, there are Michael Jordan Steak Houses in Chicago and New York.
