The largest retailer of boats and yachts in the U.S. will set up shop at the PGA Marina in Palm Beach Gardens.
MarineMax announced Thursday that it will open a new location at the marina on the Intracoastal Waterway off PGA Boulevard. Southeast Florida Regional President Paul Cummings said the soft opening will be April 15, followed by a grand opening May 13 to 15.
The company had a location just north of Northlake Boulevard in North Palm Beach but sold it because it wasn’t conducive to what its leaders were hoping to accomplish, Cummings said. They’re excited to return to northern Palm Beach County, he said.
“It was a decision that was made in a matter of moments,” Cummings said. “We’re so thrilled to be a part of it.”
Palm Beach County Property Appraiser and Clerk records show MarineMax sold the North Palm Beach property at 139 Shore Court to NVPB Marina Holdings for $2.5 million in August. The building and marina across from Frigate’s Waterfront Bar & Grill is now occupied by Nautical Ventures North.
Initially, five employees will work at the new PGA Marina location. Two are transferring. MarineMax, headquartered in Clearwater, Florida, will carry brands such as Sea Ray, Boston Whaler, Azimut, Galeon and Scout.
The Post reported in June that PGA Marina Center sold for $24 million. The 7.5-acre property includes dry storage for about 400 boats and 1,330 feet of wet dockage, according to its website.
Atlantic Marina Holdings of Charleston, South Carolina, took a $21.7 million mortgage on the property, indicating plans for redevelopment.
