The first phase of a mixed-use development referred to as Hobe Sound Station, which includes two planned restaurants in Hobe Sound, is under construction and is expected to open early next year. But developer John Doyle may face substantial opposition as he seeks regulatory approval for subsequent phases of the development on U.S. Highway 1 in Hobe Sound about a mile north of Bridge Road.

Doyle has submitted for approval his plans for a neighborhood market and an adjacent gas station. He also is planning to build an Aldi supermarket, an 18,000-square-foot commercial complex and a 46-unit residential condominium. But Martin County Commissioner Harold Jenkins, who represents unincorporated Hobe Sound, told the Palm Beach Post that Doyle will face “a lot of opposition” as he seeks those approvals.
