Brandsmart USA, Hobby Lobby and TJ Maxx are the first major retailers to agree to lease space at Dania Pointe, a shopping and entertainment center under construction in Dania Beach just east of Interstate 95.

New York-based developer Kimco Realty Corp. also announced that the 300,000-square-foot first phase of Dania Pointe will open in late 2018, about a year later than originally planned.

Paul Puma, the southern regional president of Kimco, said the opening of Dania Pointe has been delayed by changes to the mix of tenants and Kimco’s decision to upgrade part of Stirling Road and an I-95 exit ramp.

When all phases of construction are finished, Dania Pointe will span about a million square feet and will have more than 100 retail stores and restaurants.

The open-air, mixed-use development also will have two hotels, 1,000 rental apartments and condominium units, and about 500,000 square feet of office space.

Kimco is working on the 102-acre development just south of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport with partners Master Development and Salzman Real Estate Advisors.

Kimco also owns the adjacent Oakwood Plaza shopping center.

Construction of Dania Pointe has started on land near the intersection of Stirling Road and Bryan, where a roller coaster operated for more than a decade.
