About a dozen people, sitting in folding chairs and wearing Hawiian shirts, are waiting for this morning’s opening of Trader Joe’s at PGA Plaza.

“Being the first to get in a Trader Joe’s has been on my bucket list,” said North Palm Beach property manager Robin Gallo. She was the first in line when she arrived at 6 a .m.

The Gardens store in PGA Plaza on the southwest corner of Prosperity Farms Road and PGA Boulevard is the third Trader Joe’s to open in Palm Beach County in the last four months. A fourth Trader Joe’s plans to open in Boca Raton on Friday, Sept. 26.

Construction for Trader Joe’s is part of a $12 million makeover of the plaza owned by Palm Beach-based Menin Development, Inc. The shopping center renovations include enlarging the shopping area by about 3,300 square feet, upgrading the three entrances, adding more parking spaces and new landscaping.

The 10-acre PGA Plaza, built in 1975, also the home of Marshall’s, Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza and C. R. Chicks.

The Snuggery Bar and Grill, a favorite spot for locals in the plaza, was moved to a new space west of its former location.
