Renter’s Checklist

Real Estate Renter’s To-Do List

Once we find the right Treasure Coast house or condominium for you to rent, there will be a number of steps that take place before you are able to move into your new Stuart Florida home.

Whether you’re moving across country or just a few blocks into your Stuart house, moving can be stressful. Planning and preparing in advance for the big day can make all the difference in the world. Here’s a helpful checklist to keep on hand during the weeks prior to MOVING DAY!

Here are some items renters should be prepared for a smooth and easy process.

CREDIT REPORT AND YOUR SCORE. Make sure to check your Credit Report monthly. Credit scores are very important when trying to rent a place as most owners want this.
BACKGROUND VERIFICATION. Owners want to make sure you are of a good nature and that you do not have criminal past.
MAKE SURE TO HAVE REFERENCES. Having employer and past landlord references are important to the background check. Sometimes you are also asked to have references of people not related to you.
PREPARE A LIST OF QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS YOU MAY HAVE FOR THE PROPERTY OWNER. This helps protect yourself from unknown issues.
STANDARD DEPOSIT INCLUDES FIRST MONTH’S RENT, LAST MONTH’S RENT AND A SECURITY DEPOSIT. This of course is negotiable to where the owner may be willing to only ask for a depost and first month’s rent. However, it is always good to have a backup plan.
CONTACT YOUR LOCAL UTILITY COMPANY TO DISCONTINUE OR MOVE SERVICE. This includes the following:
  • ELECTRIC
  • PHONE
  • CABLE TV
  • WATER
  • GAS
  • OTHER
