City Council approved the 15,048-square-foot pharmacy with drive-through lanes in December 2013. So what’s taking so long? A dry cleaner and Valero gas station once occupied the site, so it environmental work, Planning Director Natalie Crowley said.

The city doesn’t oversee that process, but Crowley said the appropriate agencies determined the site is clean. It’s being monitored.

CVS now owns the property where Papa John’s, World of Sound and the Murry Cohen building are located, she said. Spokesman Mike DeAngelis said this week the pharmacy plans to begin construction next year. The store at 4465 Northlake Blvd. should open in late 2016.

The developer is dedicating the right-of-way to Palm Beach County for a right-turn lane from Northlake Boulevard onto Military Trail, Crowley said. Drivers heading west on Northlake who want to turn right onto Military often have to sit in traffic waiting for those going straight.

“It will be a huge improvement to the traffic at that intersection with this right-turn lane,” Crowley said.
