Dean Lavalee plans to spend about $350,000 “completely remodeling” the former Applebee’s building, which will seat 190. Outdoor seating is planned.

Opening is scheduled in about three months in the plaza on the northeast corner of I-95 and Indiantown Road. A PA BBQ in Jupiter Farms closed in 2009.

Unlike the other eight PA’s that just sell beer and wine, this restaurant also will sell a limited amount of “alcoholic craft cocktails that compliment BBQ,” said Lavalee.

Applebee’s restaurant in Jupiter West Plaza closed last May. Lavalee signed a lease on the one story, brick building.

Lavalee, who started PA BBQ in 1988 in Lake Park and now has about 400 employees, plans to hire about 50 people in his ninth restaurant.

He said he selected the Jupiter location for the high concentration of customers.

“This is where our customer base is,” he said.
