Fort Lauderdale’s Bahia Mar to undergo $7M in renovations: renderings

SHARE & COMMENT:

Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach announced it will undergo $7 million in renovations to the hotel’s guest rooms, common areas and meeting spaces.

The hotel, co-owned by Jimmy Tate, released renderings that reveal a redesign of the 296-room hotel. The main tower’s 181 rooms will feature a white and blue color scheme, with new custom carpeting, floor-to-ceilings headboards, new dressers, desks, light fixtures, draperies and appliances, according to a press release.

In keeping with the hotel’s nautical theme, the hotel’s atrium will feature a $50,000 chandelier with sliver-flecked blue glass shards. Its ballroom will have a second sea life-inspired chandelier designed by ID & Design International, the architect behind the renovations. Bahia Mar’s corridors and 28,000 square feet of meeting space will have new carpeting, and the hotel’s Waves Rooftop Pool Bar and Grill will feature new white lounge chairs, and cabanas will will have coral-colored cushions amid a blue and white décor. The redesign is expected to be completed in October.

The renovations come amid plans for a larger-scale redevelopment that would include replacing the existing 296-room hotel and adding seven, 11-story apartment buildings, surrounding dock space, and restaurants — not to mention a small fishing village.

In a previous interview with The Real Deal, developers Jimmy Tate said the investment could total up to $2 billion.

Last month the Marine Industries Association of South Florida announced the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, which is hosted on the Bahia Mar’s 50- slip marina, was granted a 30-year lease extension. The marina accommodates 100 mega-yachts, offers 3,000 square feet of parallel dockage and boasts more than four miles of floating docks, according to the press release. Amanda Rabines
